The Lobby

The lobby is designed to welcome members and guests with a spacious layout and serene color scheme as a calming juxtaposition to the bustle of the area.  Features include reception desk, fireplace, seated waiting area, ladies lounge, and a historic grandfather clock that chimes every quarter hour.  Painted portraits present the current club president and the two most recent previous presidents.

Look right for the cloak room to leave your outerwear and packages.  Telephone booths are available to your right.  A shoe shine machine and old fashioned scale to your left, plus a cigar humidor, remind visitors of the unique services a member club can offer.

Traverse straight ahead to the Main Bar or up the grand staircase with cast iron balustrade to dedicated member rooms and event spaces on four floors.  The staircase hall is adorned with 19th century prints of New York scenes and sailing ships of a bygone era.  Many were merchant ships that supported the import-export trade of some of our original members.  This business activity was a driving force in the 1800's to help make New York the leading city in the United States it is today.
