Membership

The DTA invites prospective members who seek a club that offers enriching social interaction through a dynamic set of activities.

The benefits of the interactions and connections made in our club among members we believe are immeasurable.  We invite all who call New York City home, or who want a place in New York to call home, to consider inquiring about membership.  Resident, non-resident, and seasonal/short-term membership categories are available.

DTA members are part of a social organization established in 1859, the oldest social club in Lower Manhattan and the fifth oldest in New York City.

Clubhouse:
Members can visit the Clubhouse, the oldest in New York City and one of the oldest in the U.S., weekdays daytime and evening to utilize the various amenities and services it has to offer.  The Clubhouse features three exclusive members-only lounges and activity spaces not offered in many clubs:

  1. The Main Bar is the hub of member social activity and dining.  The spectacular oak-paneled Edwardian era decor provides a warm environment for entertaining your guests.  Enjoy craft cocktails, a cultivated wine cellar, and superb dining leveraging more than 160 years of service traditions.
  2. The Reading Room is a respite of our urban surroundings offering a quiet place for study and remote work or perusing the library.  Members can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and relax in a 1911 room reminiscent of an English country manor.
  3. The Game Room offers billiard tables, poker and cards table, dart board, backgammon, chess, dominoes and more.  A television monitor allows you to stream your favorite shows and music.  Members and their guests can enjoy this space throughout the day and evening.

Activities offered and clubhouse amenities include:

  • Fine dining and full bar for member enjoyment and for entertaining clients, vendors, and friends in a beautiful Edwardian era clubhouse
  • Invitations to a wide variety of exclusive social, dining, education, gaming, and sporting events throughout the year
  • Access to the club private dining rooms and expert catering for bespoke events designed for you, your business and your philanthropies
  • Dedicated meeting spaces with WiFi to work remotely on your own and in-person with colleagues, clients and vendors
  • Lockers to store workout attire or dress clothes for refreshing prior to events.  A fitness center is under renovation for re-opening later in 2024.
  • Wine cellar to store your personal wine collection
  • Humidor to store your cigar collection
  • Discounted hotel accommodations adjacent to the Clubhouse

Note:  Spouses of members can use the clubhouse and participate in activities with full member privileges

Reciprocal clubs for use by members:  The Down Town Association maintains reciprocal relationships with 130 clubs across the United States and throughout the world. This exclusive portfolio consists of social and athletic clubs, many with hotel rooms, in 26 U.S. states and 29 countries on 5 continents. The Reciprocal Club Committee has taken care to identify clubs with the highest level of standards and services that our members would enjoy and expect. DTA members can use these clubs as they would the DTA.
